About Us

IsChatGPTDown.chat is an independent, real-time monitoring service built to answer one simple question: Is ChatGPT down right now?

We created this tool because we experienced the same frustration millions of ChatGPT users face every day. When ChatGPT stops working, you shouldn’t have to spend 10 minutes searching Reddit, checking Twitter, or refreshing the OpenAI status page just to figure out if the problem is on your end or theirs.

That’s why we built a dedicated monitor that gives you a clear answer at a glance.

How We Monitor ChatGPT

Our monitoring system uses a multi-source approach to provide the most reliable status information possible.

Direct Connectivity Checks — We run automated reachability checks against the public ChatGPT web endpoints on a 30-second schedule from our monitoring infrastructure. These checks measure connectivity latency and detect failures from that location. When our hosting scheduler runs late, some intervals are missed; missed intervals are recorded as gaps and are never counted as uptime. They confirm reachability only; they do not prove that signed-in conversations are working.

Official OpenAI Status Integration — We pull real-time incident data from OpenAI’s official status page to provide detailed incident reports, affected services, and resolution updates as they happen.

Connectivity-Latency Tracking — Each independent probe records connectivity latency in milliseconds. This measures network reachability to chatgpt.com, not the time ChatGPT takes to generate a response. We show charts only for periods with recorded samples.

Uptime Calculations — We calculate uptime from recorded monitoring samples only. If a 24-hour, 7-day, or 30-day window does not have enough sample coverage, we show “Insufficient data” instead of an estimated percentage.

The monitor targets a 30-second interval, and the page requests the latest stored result every 30 seconds. How many of those intervals are actually captured depends on our hosting scheduler, which is why we publish a coverage figure alongside every uptime window. Short-lived caching can briefly delay what a visitor sees, so every result should be read together with its check time.

What We Track

Our monitoring covers the full range of OpenAI services, including:

  • ChatGPT — Conversations, search, and core functionality
  • OpenAI API — For developers relying on API access
  • DALL-E — Image generation within ChatGPT
  • Sora — Video generation services
  • Codex — AI coding assistant
  • GPTs and Plugins — Custom GPTs and third-party integrations

When OpenAI publishes an official incident, we display its update timeline, affected services, and resolution time, with a link back to the authoritative OpenAI status record.

Why Trust Us

Independence — We are not affiliated with OpenAI. Our reachability probe provides a second signal alongside the official feed. OpenAI’s status page remains authoritative for official incident communications, and we do not claim to detect every outage before OpenAI.

Transparency — Our published data comes from real monitoring checks, and we clearly label when the latest check is delayed or unavailable instead of presenting stale data as current. We show raw response times, exact check timestamps, and outage histories so you can verify the data yourself, and we link to the official OpenAI status page as the authoritative source for confirmed incidents.

Speed — Our system is designed for one purpose: to tell you if ChatGPT is down as fast as possible. No sign-ups, no clutter, no distractions. Just open the page and get your answer.

Incident Archive — We maintain an archive imported from OpenAI’s official incident records and link back to the authoritative source. We label it as official incident history rather than claiming every incident was independently detected by us.

Who We Are

IsChatGPTDown.chat is built and operated by Thinkly for Digital Business, an independent web and software development company, and has been running since April 2026. The monitoring engine, the status logic and the incident archive are developed in-house. We publish our methodology, exact check timestamps, official source links and known limitations so readers can evaluate how each status is produced.

IsChatGPTDown.chat is free to use and requires no account. The service is funded through non-intrusive advertising, and any analytics or advertising providers we use are listed in our Privacy and Cookie policies.

Our Commitment

We are committed to keeping IsChatGPTDown.chat:

  • Free access — Core status monitoring is currently available without a paywall or account.
  • Fast — The page is optimized for speed so you get your answer instantly, even on slow connections.
  • Accurate — We continuously improve our monitoring systems to minimize false positives and detection delays.
  • Privacy-Respecting — We collect minimal data and are transparent about how it is used. Read our Privacy Policy for details.
