ChatGPT Outage Map and Regional Availability
ChatGPT is a global service with regional traffic patterns. Outages can hit one region while others remain fully operational — particularly during infrastructure rollouts, regional DDoS events, or upstream CDN incidents.
Regional Monitoring (expanding soon)
We are rolling out independent probes from multiple geographic regions: US East, US West, Europe, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. Each probe’s result will feed into the live status engine and contribute to a dedicated regional view.
Until then, our monitoring runs from a single region, so a regional-only outage may not trigger our alerts. If you suspect a regional issue, the quickest way to verify is to ask someone in a different country or check social media reports geotagged elsewhere.
How Regional ChatGPT Outages Manifest
- Country-level — OpenAI blocks certain countries entirely; that’s a policy restriction, not an outage.
- CDN-level — Cloudflare or other CDNs occasionally fail in one region, making ChatGPT slow or unreachable there while the origin is healthy.
- ISP-level — some ISPs route traffic through paths that trigger OpenAI’s bot detection, causing intermittent failures.
- Peering disputes — rare but real; a transit provider issue can make ChatGPT unreachable from one ASN while everyone else is fine.
How to Check If an Outage Is Regional
- Open our live status card above — is it global down or just you?
- Ask in a Discord or chat with users in other countries — a quick reality check.
- Search X (Twitter) for “ChatGPT down [your country]” — recent posts tell you if others nearby are affected.
- Try ChatGPT through a VPN endpoint in a different region — if it works there, it’s regional.
Countries with Official OpenAI Restrictions
OpenAI does not operate in all countries. Some regions have permanent access restrictions that are not outages — they are policy decisions. The official OpenAI documentation lists supported countries. If ChatGPT has never worked for you in a given country, it is almost certainly unsupported rather than down.
